REMOTE YARD WASTE SITES OPEN FOR COLLECTION OF MANY ITEMS

Solid Waste provides reminders on yard waste/curbside collections

RAPID CITY, SD—Community residents are reminded the remote yard waste disposal sites at Fitzgerald Stadium and West Boulevard North are open and available for discarding of many yard waste materials.  When dropping off materials at the remote yard waste sites, place materials inside the containers and not on the ground.

As a reminder, curbside yard waste will end Friday, November 28 and the last day for the yard waste containers at the remote sites will be Sunday, November 30.

After November 30, all yard waste must be taken to the landfill. The collection crew will begin removing the yard waste containers from the remote sites on Monday morning, December 1.

With the changing of the seasons, many homeowners remain busy in their yards cleaning up fallen leaves from yards, trimming tree branches and wrapping up preparations for the winter season.  Officials with the City’s Solid Waste Division provide helpful reminders regarding yard waste disposal and curbside collection.

  • Use paper yard waste bags — Paper, biodegradable bags are perfect for collection! The Rapid City Landfill uses the yard waste that they collect to make compost so please skip the plastic bags as they don’t break down.
  • Getting rid of branches? Bundle em’ up! — Keep branches in four-foot sections and tie them up so they fit inside of the truck.
  • Keep the area clear — Place yard waste bags about four feet away from garbage and recycling containers, and avoid setting branches or bags on the ground around your cans.
  • Know what belongs in your bags — Leaves and grass clippings only! Dirt, sod, rocks, logs, and pallets should go directly to the Landfill.
  • Got apples? Drop them off at the remote yard waste sites or bring them to the Landfill.
  • Keep bags light — Aim for under 25 pounds to prevent tearing and make pickup easier for crews.
