Agenda Item Summary:
City staff is currently finalizing plans for the reconstruction of the intersection of W Main Street and Jackson Boulevard, but due to the SD Department of Transportation’s (DOT) reconstruction of Omaha Street, this work cannot be completed prior to the DOT project. The DOT will be reconstructing Omaha Street, from Sheffer Street to 12th Street, beginning in early 2020. As a result of the DOT project, W Main Street will be heavily utilized by traffic throughout the Omaha Street project duration. Given the condition of the existing pavement at the intersection of W Main St and Jackson Blvd and the DOT reconstruction project, staff has determined that an intersection rehabilitation project is necessary to protect traffic until the full intersection reconstruction can occur. This rehabilitation project will include joint repair and panel repair within the intersection. This repair project is scheduled to be bid and constructed in 2019 so that traffic will not be impacted during the DOT’s Omaha project.
