Agenda Item Summary:
A request was received in the Engineering Office on February 6th, 2019 requesting the requirement to install sidewalk along Seger Drive and Taggart Road per City of Rapid City Ordinance 12.08.060 be waived. The requested variance will allow for construction of a business on the property without the installation of sidewalk in the adjacent Seger Drive and Taggart Road rights-of-way. A five-foot wide sidewalk is required to be constructed along Seger Drive and Taggart Road at the time of building permit, the plans submitted for the building permit show sidewalk being installed on both street fronts. There are no topographical constraints that would cause issues to building this sidewalk. There is sidewalk directly across the road to the North and also sidewalk across the road to the South West. Seger Drive is an urban arterial street and in the process of being developed, Public Works recommends denial of the sidewalk variance request.
