Brief Description: The RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is a national volunteer program that engages individuals aged 55 and older in a variety of volunteer activities within their community. It aims to help seniors stay active and engaged while providing a positive impact on their community. The City of Rapid City/RSVP of Western South Dakota will have 200 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who will assist with food delivery to the homebound adults and individuals with disabilities, help at food pantries, work in congregate meal sites, serve meals at local senior centers, and assist with other community needs.

Why is it important for the city: At the end of the three-year grant, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers will be responsible for 300 individuals who report increased food security.

This is a continuation of a long-standing program. Last year 536 volunteers gave over 100,000 hours of service. They volunteered at 58 different sites including Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Cornerstone Rescue Mission, and the Spearfish Food Pantry.

Fiscal Impact: 17.15% match ($40,013).
