Agenda Item Summary:
This MOU concerns the previous IAFF contract, not the current contract in effective until the end of 2026. When the IAFF and City management were negotiating the current contract, an error was discovered in the pay matrixes for the parties’ contract from 2017-2022. The contract described the pay differential between steps in two different, and contradictory, ways. First, the contract stated that wage increase between steps would be five percent for each step. However, the actual pay matrixes/scales that were part of the agreement included adjustments that were slightly less than five percent. This error went unnoticed by all parties until they were negotiating for the current contract. Today, the parties wish to address this mutual mistake through this MOU, which authorizes the City to make one designated payment to certain employees who were affected by the discrepancy during the course of the previous contract. The IAFF union membership has voted to approve this MOU.
