Agenda Item Summary:
In RCMC 17.50.080.S.2, the City’s sign code permits the placement of banners on public light poles with the consent of the City Council. Bill Casper with the Veterans Honor Banners Project has requested the use of certain light poles for the Veterans Honor Banners from the end of the Sturgis Rally (August 15) through November, 2021. Staff recommends approval of this request, with the stipulation that banners on street lights utilized for holiday decorations may be removed by the City before November 30 at the time the City places the holiday decorations on the light pole. The authorization would apply to the following street lights: 1) Main Street & Saint Joseph Street from East Blvd. to West Blvd. All of the available light poles with the 60" banner brackets. 2) Sturgis Road from West Chicago Street to West Main Street 3) West Main Street from West Blvd. to Sturgis Road. 4) Saint Joseph Street from the Corner of Mtn. View to West Blvd. 5) Kansas City Street from West Blvd. to Mt. Rushmore Road. 6) Quincy Street from West Blvd. to 4th Street. 7) Memorial Walkway from Omaha Street to the south side of the Civic Center and then around the north side of the Memorial Pond. 8) Canyon Lake Drive from Fremont Street to the intersection with Mt. View Road. 9) Sheridan Lake Road from Canyon Lake Drive to Jackson Blvd. 10) East Blvd. from Saint Joseph Street to the intersection of East North Street and Campbell Street.
