Agenda Item Summary:
This agreement is for HDR Engineering, Inc. to provide professional services for the design, bidding and construction observation of an emergency repair project on the E Main Street N bridge, located between Steele Ave and Brennan Ave. In December 2019, a hole was discovered in the bridge deck on the east end of the structure. The structure was closed to ensure safety for the traveling public, and the structure will remain closed until the repair work has been completed. This project includes design, bidding and construction observation of the necessary work to safely re-open the bridge to vehicular traffic, until a more involved rehabilitation project can be designed and constructed. The City of Rapid City was previously awarded a 2019 Bridge Improvement Grant (BIG) for this structure. Work under this contract will only be to repair the current defects and re-open the bridge to traffic. Additional rehabilitation work for the structure (design and construction) will still be completed in 2020 (design) and 2021 (construction) under a separate project number, as part of the BIG grant.
