Agenda Item Ref. #: LF082819 07

Agenda Item Title:

Approve Resolution No. 2019-075 a Resolution Declaring Personal Property Surplus and Authorizing the Sale of Such Surplus Property to Other Local Governments

Origination Group:
Legal & Finance Committee
Origination Meeting Date:
08/28/2019
City Council Hearing Date:
09/03/2019
Staff Contact:
Wade Nyberg, Deputy City Attorney, Lt. Cathy Bock, Police Chief Karl Jegeris
Agenda Item Summary:
The Police Department is transitioning to a new in-car camera system. The cameras to be declared surplus are not useful to others without the L3 software that accompanies them. As such, the cameras themselves are not likely to bring much at auction. Since the Spearfish PD, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and the Box Elder PD use the L3 system and have the accompanying software, these cameras can be useful to those agencies. The RCPD has proposed the terms of sale contained in the resolution to these agencies, and they are agreeable. This should recoup some of the value of the cameras, while saving the partner agencies thousands of dollars by purchasing these used cameras vs. new equipment.
